3 Things I love about Newborn Sessions | Austin Newborn Photographer

Newborn sessions are my favorite.

I love working with babies, but the newborn sessions are really special.  They’ll only be this little for a short period of time and it will go by much, much faster than you can possibly imagine.  The images from your baby’s newborn session will be special to you and your child as they grow older.   I put a lot of thought and care into choosing backdrops and props for every newborn session.

1. Knitting

I am a crafter.  I love just about anything crafty.  It’s wonderful that I am able to combine my craftiness with my love of photography that is even better.   When I started doing newborn photographers I started knitting again.  I knit cute little beanies, bonnets, swaddle sacks, and pants.  The entire process from deciding on a pattern to finishing off the last stitch is fun to me.  My yarn stash just grows and grows, because I never have just the right yarn for the new piece I want to have for my upcoming session.  Sometimes I even find unusual yarns that I can make long chains out of to stuff in a basket as filler.

I just finished knitting a few pieces for a session I have coming up this week.  She’s going to be three month’s old.  I guess I love knitting for babies of all ages, because I’ve also done it for six and nine month-old babies.  I love knitting, babies, and yarn.  LOL

2.  Shopping

Yes, I love shopping.  It is one of my favorite ways to spend leisure time.  It doesn’t matter if I’m spending money or just window shopping I find it very relaxing.  When I’m preparing for a newborn session I find myself looking for new baskets, bowls, buckets, and various other baby containers.  I like to use different backdrops at each session and mix things up.  For newborns I use a variety of fabric backdrops and throws for my bean bag poses.  I have several faux fur rugs and Flokati rugs that coordinate with the props chosen for each session.

3.  Babies!

Working with babies makes me happy.  Even the fussiest baby will leave me feeling smiley for the rest of the day.  For as long as I can remember I have always enjoyed being around babies.   I love that my job allows me to hold, cuddle, and soothe sweet, little babies.   It’s the best part.  I love taking photographs, but I might love playing with babies more.  🙂

I’m looking forward to the baby session on Thursday.  Do you think I have time to knit a cute little pair of pants to match the bonnet I made last weekend?

Knowing you Val, yes, you can knit a pair of pants by Thursday! I love the Flotaki rug. I used to have one. Loved the smell and how super soft it was!!! Like floating in a cloud. The babies must think it’s dreamy!ReplyCancel

LOL. I’m not too sure. This pattern is backwards from how I normally knit baby pants. These pants start at the legs and you work your way up one leg at a time. The good news, is I’m careful I can match the stripes more easily than the other way I normally knit. I’m just not sure how the legs get put together and the waist is formed at this point. I’m almost done with the first leg so I guess I’ll see shortly how the rest of these little pants come together.ReplyCancel

So cute! I’ve tried to learn to knit several times, and eventually had to accept that fiber is not my friend. Is it stressful working with newborns and parents?ReplyCancel

So far working with newborns and their parents has been pretty easy. If the baby is fussy and doesn’t want to fuss or be posed I get to hold him/her a little longer before trying the set-up again.ReplyCancel
