Covid 19 Updates Austin Newborn Photography – Newborn Studio Best Practices
On March 13th we photographed our last newborn session for what would be over two months. We had to close our doors and shelter at home as part of of the Austin and Travis County Orders in regards to the Coronavirus Pandemic. During that time we had to postpone many, many maternity, newborn, and one year sessions. We are so grateful to the new moms and dads that stuck with us during the times that we could not operate the studio. At the beginning of May, when Governor Abbott began relaxing the shelter in place orders and opening up businesses we waited until he gave the second phase the ok to begin. In the past two weeks the studio has finally been able to begin scheduling our sessions that had to be put off during the shut-down period.
Since we are still in the middle of the pandemic we’re practicing social distancing at the studio as best we can. It is impossible for us to do newborn sessions and stay 6ft away. Due to the special circumstances in regards to how we, as newborn photographers work, we’ve had to come up procedures to allow us to continue to photograph your precious little ones while keeping the environment safe for you, your baby, my assistant, and myself. We wear masks to protect each other. Masks will be required in the studio for all parties over the age of three. The mask can come off for family and parent poses, but the must go back on as soon as we are done. We wear masks/cloth face coverings to protect each other.
Our studio has newborn safety as our #1 top priority. The Austin Newborn Photography studio has photographed 100’s of babies with a 100% safety record. We take safety seriously.
We have studied newborn posing and safety with some of industry’s best newborn photography instructors, we’ve also completed newborn safety training offered by APNPI.
We have always kept hand washing and sanitizing during our sessions a priority to limit baby’s exposure to germs. We have always cleaned the studio between sessions. We use disinfectant to clean all high-touch areas, such as door handles, sinks, counters, and studio furniture.
We have only ever done ONE newborn session per day. Currently we are spreading our sessions out during the week with at least 48-72 hours between sessions.
We have invested in UV Sanitizing Lamps to use after each session and run a large HEPA air filter in the studio at all times.
The graphic above lists our current policies. We hope that one day soon that things will get back to normal, but for now we’re taking precautions. With newborns safety has always been our number one priority. We’ve always had sick policies in place. We get vaccinated. We wash hands. Sanitize Props, etc.
I’m even sewing masks. It is what I did with most of my time during the past few months. I have made and sold nd given away hundreds. I had to put them in my Etsy Shop and have found my niche in the mask making world, too. Camera fabric masks for photographers, but I LOVE this fun racoon print by Tula Pink:
We’re also not able to offer our full Belly to Baby experience at this time. For those wishing to have your maternity portraits captured we’re offering a special bundle deal with our newborn sessions.
